Poser is much more than posing 3D humans. It can load, render and animate geometries including landscapes, buildings, props, clothing. It's today's virtual artist toolkit.

DAZ|Studio
A free alternative to Poser is DAZ|Studio available at Digital Art Zone. It has many of the same features for posing, morphing, texturing and rendering available in it's own interface. A very capable program that can be extended with plug-ins and accepts many of Poser's objects, morphs, textures, props and environments. A relatively new product, but very capable.
